Nina Caputo
Nina Caputo is an Associate Professor in the Department of History. She received her B.A. and M.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Caputo is a scholar of medieval Jewish history and interfaith relations in medieval Europe. She has been the recipient of a Mellon Foundation Fellowship at the Penn Humanities Center and the Dorset Fellowship at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies during the 2013-2014 academic year. Caputo’s first book, Nahmanides in Medieval Catalonia: History, Community, Messianism (2007), explores the history of encounters between Jewish and Christian interpretations of history and redemption. More recently, she published a graphic history of the Barcelona Disputation, Debating Truth: The Barcelona Disputation of 1263 and co-edited Faithful Narratives: Historians, Religion, and the Challenge of Objectivity (Cornell University Press, 2014) with Dr Andrea Sterk. She is currently working on a book that uses Petrus Alfonsi to explore the figure of the convert and conversion in the Christian middle ages and she is co-editing with Mitchell Hart On the Word of a Jew: Religion, Reliability, and the Dynamics of Trust (under contract, Indiana University Press).

He is the editor of the three-volume, 1600-page anthology The Graphic Canon: The World’s Greatest Literature as Comics and Visuals, which collects comics adaptations of literary works and features creators like R. Crumb, Will Eisner, Molly Crabapple, and Kim Deitch. He is also editor of the follow-up volume, The Graphic Canon of Children’s Literature. In addition to his work on The Graphic Canon, Kick is the author of the bestselling anthologies You Are Being Lied To and Everything You Know is Wrong, which have sold over half a million copies. He is also the founder and editor of the website The Memory Hole, which publishes and archives material in danger of being lost or hard to find (and can currently be accessed at thememoryhole2.org). The New York Times has dubbed Kick “an information archaeologist,” Details magazine described Kick as “a Renaissance man,” and Utne Readernamed him one of its “50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World.” He most recently edited the collection Flash Wisdom: A Curated Collection of Mind-Blowing, Perspective-Changing Quotes. Matt Kish
Matt Kish is a self-taught artist and librarian who lives in southwest Ohio. In 2009, Kish decided to create one illustration per day for every page of the novel Moby-Dick by Herman Melville, which he originally posted on a blog. Experimenting with mixed media on found paper with a variety of styles and techniques, Kish completed the project after 543 days of work, beating his goal by nine days. A total of 552 images were subsequently published as Moby-Dick in Pictures by Tin House Books in 2011. In 2012, Kish illustrated another classic novel, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, also published by Tin House. He returned to Moby-Dick after several years, and created a new body of work that was on display in 2016 at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio as part of a two-person exhibit entitled “Chasing The Whale and Other Endless Pursuits: Matt Kish and Robert Del Tredici.” He has done illustration work for small presses, magazines, and record albums, and continues to make art while working as a full-time librarian at a large metropolitan public library. Examples of his work can be seen at matt-kish.com.
